Are you tired of having Ghewar from markets, the authenticity of which declines a little each Janmashtami? If yes, don’t shy away from preparing the festive delicacy at your home to ensure both hygiene and authenticity.

Now, it may seem difficult to prepare this sweet dish, but let me tell you, preparing Ghewar is no rocket science. You can easily make Ghewar at home for four people in an hour.

Ingredients

• Semolina: 3 cups
• Milk: ½ cup
• Water: ½ cup
• Ghee: ¼ cup
• Yellow food color: ¼ spoon
• Ghee: enough to deep fry the Ghewar.

Ingredients for the Sugar Syrup (Chashni) :

• Sugar: ½ cups
• Water: 1 cup

Method of preparing the Sugar Syrup (Chashni):

• Pour water and sugar in a pan and keep on gas to boil.
• After the mixture starts boiling, cook it for extra 5-6 minutes.
• Make sure it makes two thread consistency by sticking it between your fore finger and thumb. If not, cook for some more time.
• Your sugar syrup is ready.

Method of preparing Ghewar:

• Filter semolina and keep it separately.
• Pour ghee and milk in a bowl and mix thoroughly. Add semolina in the mixture and mix until it becomes even.
• Add water and food color and again mix thoroughly to maintain the consistency of the mixture.
• Pour ghee in a deep frying pan and heat it. When hot, pour the mixture in the ghee with the help of a spoon, so that a froth appears in the ghee.
• When the froth settles, add another layer of the mixture, and keep repeating the same way until your prepared mixture finishes off.
• Fry the Ghewar until it turns light brown. Take it out from ghee and place it in a platter to let extra ghee out.
• Now take the Ghewar and dip it into the sugar syrup and again place it in the platter to let extra syrup out.
Your Ghewar is ready. Garnish it with chopped dry fruits and Rabri before serving.
