\'Endometriosis\' is a term derived from the word \'endometrium\'. The endometrium is the normal internal layer of the uterus and undergo physiological changes during menstruation every month and is responsible for the menstrual bleeding every month. Normally endometrial cells are found only in the uterus but sometimes these cells are present also in some other organs of the body like ovary, fallopian tube, abdomen, any surgical scar, etc. This condition is known as \"Endometriosis\".

Endometriosis generally occurs in young to middle age females after the start of the menstrual period.
