The viral disease transferred by Aedes mosquitoes that typically bites during the day is known as Zika virus. The symptoms are mild or high fever followed by rash, muscle pain, conjunctivitis and headache that normally last for a couple of days to a week.

In most cases, Zika virus disease is asymptomatic. The person carrying the virus may not be aware of it. It was first detected in Uganada in 1947 in monkeys which later got spread to humans in 1952.

Zika virus can cause a lot of complications in pregnancy resulting in neurological defects in newborns especially microcephaly that may lead to fatal brain damage. A person developing Zika virus infection from mosquito bites can spread it to others through sex. It can also spread through an infected person’s tear or sweat.

No specific treatment is available for treatment but symptoms work well with over-the-counter medications. The patient should take enough rest and drink plenty of fluids.
