Dealing with the masala girl-boy love stories with commercial entertainment infused in between, Bollywood more than often fails to give us the true archetypes of the characters we deal with in our real lives. Still, there are some movies that hit the big screen once in a while and had us smiling because of being relatable to our everyday situations.
School memories being the best of all, any Bollywood movie that takes us back to our school, possess the capability of moving us effortlessly. Fortunately, Bollywood has produced such movies and created such archetypes which remind us of many characters from our school life –and the most important one would always remain the teachers.
Being an integral part of school life, teachers just can’t be missed when it is to be depicted. Bollywood has depicted the archetypes of teachers in all their colors overtime. Here are some of them:
1. The Khadoos One:
Yea, no one can forget the teacher who was less of a teacher and more of a Hitler; the one who had more interest in the teaching of discipline and less in the teaching of his/her own subject. We have that teacher’s counterparts in Bollywood very well. He is Virus in Three Idiots, and Dr. Asthana in Munna Bhai MBBS. More examples are the Art teacher in Taare Zameen Par and the Headmaster of Gurukul in Mohabbatein.
2. Everyone’s crush:
This is the teacher for whose class we used to wait the whole day. She was just too young and too pretty to be a teacher. While girls used to check out her saree designs, guys were always wooed by her hair, perfume, sweet voice, and what not. If Bollywood has depicted any teacher archetype perfectly, it is this one. The best example is Miss Chandini from Main Hoon Na and Miss Braganza in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
3. The comical Hindi teacher:
Yes, it’s Mrs. Kakkar from Main Hoon Na and the Hindi teacher from Tare Zameen Par. The Hindi teacher who used to be less strict and more funny, and whose class used to be the chilled out session with reciting kavitas and listening to innumerable stories. Remember reading Premchand in Hindi class?
4. The teacher who changed your life:
There is always one teacher in our life who teaches us things way beyond the four walls of the classroom and four books that we carry in our bags. These teachers give you lessons for a lifetime. Yes, these are the teachers whom you still send “Happy Teacher’s Day” message, even after graduating a long while ago.
It’s Raj Malhotra from Mohabbatein, Mohit from Iqbal, Debraj Sahai from Black, Shahrukh Khan from Chak De India, Naina Mathur from Hichki, and Ram Shankar Nikumbh from Tare Zameen Par. We all know how much loved these teachers are.
