This year, four mathematicians received the prestigious Nobel Prize in Mathematics -known as Fields Award -and one of them is Indian-Australian. The name of the genius mathematician is Akshay Venkatesh.
The other three mathematicians who shared the award with him are Cauher Birkar of Iranian Kurshid origin, German Peter Scholze, and Italian Alessio Figalli. Akshay Venkatesh, and other Fields Award winners received the honor in the International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio de Janeiro.
Akshay Vekatesh, who was born in New Delhi and went to Perth, Australia at the age of 2, has worked extensively to contribute to the field of mathematics. His works include number theory, arithmetic geometry, topology, automorphic forms and ergodic theory.
Venkatesh holds a PhD from MIT and a Clay Research Fellowship. Currently, he’s a professor in Stanford University. As the Nobel Prize for Mathematics, he has received a cash prize of $15,000, along with a gold medal with the picture of Archimedes engraved on it.
So after India performing exceptionally well in the
International Physics Olympiad that happened in Portugal, an Indian winning a Nobel Prize for Mathematics (Fields Award) is another proud moment for it.
