As per the speech given by PM Narendra Modi, at the inauguration ceremony, the 100 rs coin has the portrait of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in his memory.

The stalwart leader died this year in August and left every one of us teary-eyed. It is to commemorate him that his portrait is there on the back side of the new 100 rs. coin, along with his name in both Devanagari and Roman Script. The coin also has the year of his birth, 1924 and the year of his death, 2018 on it.

The coin was released yesterday, 24th December 2018, because today is Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s 94th birth anniversary. It was special to release it on his birthday.

The front part of the coin has our national emblem with Styamev Jayatya inscribed in Devnagri below it. This new coin is said to be the heaviest of all the existing coins. It is made up of 3 metals -50% silver, 40% copper, 5% zinc, and 5% nickel.
