Gautam Gambhir has been one of the most iconic Indian cricket players. With all his records and achievements he gained in his career, he has successfully made a special space in the hearts of all cricket lovers. And now that he retires, it’s a heartbreaking moment for all of us.

As he says goodbye to the dear pitches, he would be alive in our memories as a beloved Indian cricketer. But there is more to his life than just cricket that must be remembered about him.

1. Gautam Gambhir’s ODI debut was at the age of 17 against Bangladesh in 2003. In 2004, he played the first test cricket of his life against Australia.

2. He one of the four international cricketers to have scored hundreds in consecutive matches 5 times. He is the only Indian cricketer to achieve that feat.

3. Under his captaincy from 2010 to 2011, India played six ODIs and won all of them.

4. He was the most expensive player to be hired for IPL at his time. He was offered a whopping amount of $2.5 million a year to play for Kolkata Knight Riders instead of Delhi Daredevils.

5. Gambhir was the reason for KKR winning two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

6. Gautam Gambhir is quite vocal about national pride and the issues related to them. He spends a lot on the education of the children of CRPF Jawans martyred in Chattisgarh.

7. He owns a foundation known as CG foundation which does a lot of work for people’s welfare. Under this foundation is opened a community kitchen which offers free food to poor and needy. According to him, “No one should sleep hungry”.

8. Gambhir is very supportive of the transgender community and their rights. He has never stayed behind in spreading the awareness about transgender rights. He has even celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the people of this community.

9. Gautam Gambhir was adopted by his grandparents as they took a special liking to him when his mother showed the newborn baby to them. His mentor is his maternal uncle whom he often used to call before important matches.

10. In his career, he was bestowed with various honors including Arjuna Award (2008), ICC Test Player of the Year Award (2009), and Vijay-Hazare Trophy (2018-19).
