Could Cloud Seeding Be The Best Answer To Delhi-s Pollution ?

The pollution and smog is the never leaving crisis for not only the Delhi Government but also for the residents of Delhi during winter season. Ironically no one can come to the answer for the cause of Delhi's smog. But everybody is agreeing that the location of Delhi may be reason for wind trapping inside Delhi. As temperature drops, static air movement is not carrying the dust particles out of Delhi.

During rainy season rain water washes away all the dust particles and pollution from Delhi's streets. So researchers think that cloud seeding and artificial rain may wash out the dust particles out of Delhi. It is accepted by everyone. For the last 2 years the Delhi government is researching in it.

Beijing is also facing smog problem and they are using cloud seeding to control smog. So in 2016 itself, Delhi Chief Minister pointed out about doing cloud seeding to control pollution.

Cloud seeding is not that easy. First of all there should be cloud in the sky. Secondly clouds should be dense and present at a low height of 2 or 2.5 kilometer. And the aircraft for cloud seeding should be available when the cloud is seen. The aircraft which is a ISRO aircraft, should get clearance from 4 government departments to fly over Delhi.

This week the plan of cloud seeding washed away because of delay in getting approval from government departments. The permission to fly the ISRO aircraft for cloud is till 25 November only. And there is no cloud to be seen now and there is no hope of cloud till 25th November. So we will know only after the cloud seeding is done. Till then we have to wait with our fingers crossed.
