No, sound does not travel faster in space. In fact, sound generally cannot travel through space at all. This surprises a lot of people because movies often show explosions, spacecraft battles, and other loud sounds in outer space. In reality, space is mostly a vacuum, and sound needs a medium to travel through.

The thing is, sound travels by making particles vibrate. These vibrations move from one particle to another until they reach our ears. On Earth, sound can travel through air, water, and even solid objects because all of them contain particles.

However, outer space is almost empty. There are very few particles available to carry those vibrations. Since there is no proper medium for sound waves to move through, sound cannot travel the way it does on Earth.

Sound is a mechanical wave, which means it needs a medium (like air, water, or solids) to travel. Space is a vacuum, meaning it has almost no particles. With no particles to transmit vibrations, sound waves can't propagate.
