Colon cancer is a type of cancer which involves large intestine and mainly occurs in old age people. In initial stages, it often doesn't cause any symptoms and may present only with unexplained iron deficiency anemia .
If any anemia in a normal old age people without any significant past history is found, then it should be worked up with proper investigations including sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, CT abdomen and others to diagnose Colon cancer.
Treatment of Colon cancer depends on stage of the disease. Chemotherapy can be used. But surgery is often the definitive treatment and that's only when the cancer is localized. If it has spread to other organs of body then chemotherapy is used with varying results.

People with colon cancers that have no longer spread to remote sites normally have surgical procedure as the main or first remedy. Chemotherapy may also be used after surgery (referred to as adjuvant remedy). Most adjuvant remedy is given for about 6 months.
