As the country is struggling from the second wave of COVID-19, the Education Minister first
decided to cancel the exam of class 10th and said that the marking scheme will depend on the internal marks and practical marks. He also declared that the exam for class 12th will be conducted in the first week of June. But after looking at the situation of the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, May 2021 decided to cancel the exam of class 12th students.
The reports say that the situation of the country is worse because of the spread of coronavirus
and because of which the students should not appear in the exams under such pressure. In
respect to the marking scheme, the government has given various options to the CBSE to
decide upon. As the exams have been cancelled, the concern regarding the admission
procedures in the colleges have come up. Most of the colleges have decided to follow the
instructions given by the government. Likewise, one of the most known and top most college
DU, Delhi University has also agreed to follow the instructions of the government of India. Delhi
University (DU) has decided to take the 'merit' criteria as their key for the admission of the first
year students. The DU is strictly following the merit criterion because of this unforeseen COVID-
19 situations in the county. They have also mentioned that their cut-off will be based on the
marks which will be declared by the CBSE. As the prediction of the third wave in the country is
there, the CUCET has been cancelled and the criterion will be based on the class 12th marks
only. The DU has said that they are committed to the CUCET but as the situation is pandemic,
the exam is of national level and because of rapid growth of cases, many students will not be
able to attend the same. In conclusion they have finalized to follow the CBSE formula and will
declare the cut offs as and when the results come out.
