Can Freshers Really Get 1 Crore Plus Packages at IITs?

Yes, but it is very rare for freshers at IITs to get 1 crore+ annual packages. Top institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology do see international offers, especially in computer science, data science, or quant roles. However, most of these high packages come from foreign companies and include base salary, bonuses, and stock options (ESOPs), which may not be fully guaranteed yearly cash. Only a small number of top-performing students receive such offers. The average domestic packages are much lower. So, while 1 crore+ offers are possible, they are exceptional and not the norm for most fresh graduates.

Packages at IITs vary significantly with departments. The crore-plus salary packages are usually bagged only

by students of computer science and engineering. Last year, a student ofIndian Institute of Technologyin Delhi (IIT-D) wasrecruited by Microsoftwith an annual pay package of whopping Rs 1.4 crore.

Some students do get one crore rupees packages which are equivalent in US$ if they are placed abroad. But with high taxes and unavoidable expenses of about 40% in the USA and considering purchase price parity, a salary of about US$150000 in the USA is just as good in saving potential as the highest salaries which IITs students are able to get in India.

Several crore-plus packages are offered by companies like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, etc. However, recruitment from keyIndian Institute of Technologycampuses suggests the crore club is hardly bagged by freshers and they usually bag packages around Rs 8- Rs 12 lakh per annum which are also considered to be a good start for freshers.
