After dominating the 5-ODI series against New Zealand with a 4-1 victory, it's time now for the shorter format.

In the first of three T20 matches against New Zealand, India was handed its biggest ever defeat in this format. New Zealand put up a total of 216 in 20 overs with six lost wickets. Tim Seifert played a thrilling knock, scoring 84 in just 43 balls with seven 4s and six 6s. He received the 'Man of the Match' award.
In response, India fell short by a mammoth 80 runs. The men in blue, chasing down the giant target, got all out at 139 with four balls still remaining. MS Dhoni played a solid inning, scoring 39 runs in 31 balls. But with no support on the other side, even he couldn't save the match.

Tim Southee took 3 wickets in four overs, conceding just 17 runs. From the Indian side, Hardik Pandya took the most wicket, 2. But he was also expensive, giving run at 12.75 economy rate.
Very clearly, Virat Kohli was missed in a big way. Not entirely for his batting prowess but also for the energy and leadership he brings on the field.

This 80-run defeat is the biggest India has tasted ever in the T20 format. Earlier it was the 49-run loss the team suffered against Australia in 2010.
Two T20 matches still remain against New Zealand. Hopefully, India can make a strong comeback and end this trip with complete domination.
