We all are well aware that queer fashion is not just fashion but a revolution in itself. A revolution, which is not just hated, but unaccepted in many different ways.
Some people ignore it, some people criticize it, and some just call it a whim and laugh it off.
Decriminalization of homosexuality does not mean (and should not be confused with) its social acceptance and the lifestyle associated with it. We all know how much fun is made of Ranveer Singh for embracing the queer fashion openly.
I think, India is just not ready for something as radical as incorporating queer fashion products in their lifestyle. If Indians have to choose between goth-fashion and queer fashion, they would rather look “horrible” than “weird”.
There are many designers in fashion industry who are trying to take queer fashion and style on new heights, but nothing could be done unless the consumers accept this as a trend. Right now, it is only accepted when it’s been made fun of. The entertainment industry would sell whatever it can and hence it is also promoting queer fashion as a product of laughter and fun.
It’s a long journey before we see queer fashion being taken seriously in India.
