Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure in which arthroscopic surgery is performed on a joint usually using arthroscope. Arthroscope is a thin, telescopic instrument that has an endoscope (a small video camera) and instruments attached to the inside of its curved tube for insertion through small incisions.
Arthroscopy allows preoperative examination of the joint before surgical treatment, and it allows intra-operative examination of the joint after surgical treatment. It also provides an opportunity for exploration of the articular cartilage, synovium or meniscus.
