How to Check your EPF Balance

The Employees’ Provident Fund is a savings tool for all employees in India whether in the public or private sector. Both the employer and employee are involved in making equal monthly saving which can then be accessed once a person retires or is rendered jobless. The EPFO allows its members the chance of checking their EPF balance at any time that they term necessary after UAN Login. Having this information is very important as it can be relied upon when making your plans, checking the status of your PF account or applying a loan with the EPF balance as your security. There are three methods that can be relied upon when checking your EPF balance. They include:

1. Giving a missed call

2. Sending an SMS

3. Using the EPF app

4. Using EPF portal

In this article, we are will find out how to check your EPF balance by giving a missed call, sending and SMS and using the EPF app.

Sending and SMS

Any EPF member that wishes to use this method to check their balance will first have to integrate their UAN number with KYC details like Aadhaar or PAN number.


Once this is done, you can proceed to check your EPF balance using SMS. This service is available in different language i.e. English, Punjabi, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada and Marathi hence you must choose the most preferred language.

To get your EPF balance via SMS you will have to send a message to 7738299899. This message should be written as EPFOHO UAN ENG if you wish to get it using the English language. All you have to do is change the last characters in order to get the message using a different language. For instance, if you want to get the message in Marathi you can type in EPFOHO UAN MAR and send it to 7738299899. With this action, you will be able to get your EPF balance as a short message.

Giving a Missed Call

You can also decide to give a missed call to the authorized phone number after which you will receive the EPF balance in form of a text message. However, to use this method, you must first integrate your UAN with the KYC details. Once this is done successfully, you can use the steps below to know your EPF balance by sending a missed call.

❖ From your registered mobile number, give a missed call to 011-22901406

❖ Once the missed call has been initiated, you will receive your PF details in form of a short message.

Using the EPFO App

You must make sure that your UAN is activated before you can finally check your EPF balance using the EPFO app. Once this is in place, you can follow these steps to check your EPF balance:

➢ Download the “EPFO m-sewa app” from Google Play Store.

➢ After the app has been downloaded and installed, you will be required to tap on it for you to use the services available.

➢ Click on “Member” before selecting “Balance/Passbook.

➢ Correctly enter your registered mobile number and UAN and wait for the system to detect these details. You can then view your EPF balance once your details have been approved.
