Every year on January 15, Army Day is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India. This year we are celebrating the 70th Indian Army day. The day commemorates the brave soldiers for their sacrifice to the nation. The day is observed in the memory of our nation’s first Indian Army Commander in chief, Lt General Kodandera Madappa Cariappa after independence. On this day in 1948, Cariappa took over the post from British Army general Sir Francis Butcher. Although our nation got independence on August 15, 1947, it took one more year for an Indian to take charge of the Army. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to extend greetings to the soldiers and their families and paid salute to the army.
