What are hernia’s meaning and symptoms?

A hernia happens when an organ or tissue pushes through a weak spot in the muscle. In children, it often appears as a bulge in the groin, especially when crying or coughing.

Common symptoms:

• Groin swelling or lump
• Pain or discomfort
• Swelling that comes and goes
• Irritability in infants

Hernia is a disease condition that occurs when an organ pushes through an opening in the muscle or tissue that fixes it properly. Usually, it takes place in stomach or intestine. Most common symptom of hernia is the presence of a lump in the affected area and pain around the lump. This lump will disappear when you lie down. Other symptoms include abdominal discomfort, abdominal distension, groin discomfort, tenderness etc. Hiatal hernia shows symptoms like chest burn, chest pain, difficulty in swallowing etc.
