Non-renewable resources are natural resources that can be replenished, but not at a rate where they could feasibly support large-scale extraction over an extended period of time. When these natural resources are used up, they are replaced by new sources of the same resource. Once non-renewable minerals have been depleted, it is impossible to refill them in any significant way without engaging in extraordinarily impractical or impossible ecological projects that would take thousands of years to accomplish. All non-renewable resources have catastrophic potential to create environmental degradation and irreparable damage in the future if their current usage is not changed drastically.
