What are the causes of diabetes?
Diabetes happens when your body can’t use insulin properly or doesn’t make enough of it. Here are the common causes:
-
Family history – If your parents or siblings have diabetes, your chances increase.
-
Unhealthy diet – Eating too much sugar, junk food, and processed items can lead to insulin problems.
-
Lack of physical activity – Not exercising makes the body resistant to insulin.
-
Being overweight – Extra body fat, especially around the stomach, is a major cause.
-
Age – People above 40 are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes.
-
Stress & poor sleep – These affect hormones and can increase blood sugar levels.
-
Hormonal or medical issues – Conditions like PCOS, thyroid problems, and pancreatitis can also lead to diabetes.
Diabetes mostly happens because the body cannot manage sugar properly due to lifestyle factors, genetics, or medical conditions.
