Dengue fever is an acute viral infection that typically affects children living in or visiting tropical areas. These include Latin America, Africa, southeast Asia, and the Western Pacific. The most common symptom is severe pain with redness in the eyes. Other symptoms may include rash over the body, with fever and chills; muscle aches; headache; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; general discomfort (a feeling of “feverishness”); and fatigue. If you think you or your child may have dengue fever, contact
your doctor immediately for advice on how to care for you or your child.
