Scientists are still grappling with the details of what migraine is and how to treat it effectively. But if you ever experience the following symptoms, it's likely that you're dealing with a migraine:
- Painful head pain that gets worse with activity or bright light
- Nausea or vomiting
- Sensitivity to sound or light
- Visual disturbances.
The first two symptoms are also present in other types of headaches, so talk to your doctor if there's any uncertainty. The last two symptoms are unique to migraines and can signal an ictal event in progress. If present, call 911 immediately! You may have a stroke on top of your migraine attack.
