Ghats in India are referring to two things. One is the natural boundary like mountain ranges which is running both the eastern and western sides of Deccan plateau and the other meaning of Ghat is river banks.

India has a natural protecting wall-like mountain ranges in its east and west side of the peninsula. In the east, the eastern ghats (mountain pass) are starting from Odissa and passing through Andhra Pradesh and ending in Tamil Nadu. These are discontinuous mountain ranges in different sizes and running along the Bay of Bengal. Even it passes through some parts of Karnataka and Kerala.

And many rivers like Palar are originating from Eastern Ghat and rivers like Krishna, Godavari, Kaveri, Thungabhatra are passing through the Eastern Ghats.

Western Ghat which is also called Sahyadri mountain ranges which are running through the western side of peninsular India. From Gujarat, it crosses via Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and ends in Kerala.

Unlike the Eastern Ghats, Western Ghats is the originating place of all the Perennial rivers of South like Krishna, Kaveri, Tungabhadra... It is rich in fauna and flora. Both ghats are very rich in ecosystem and biodiversity. So many tourist attractions are there in western ghats. Go and discover India.
