Sardar Patel Statue of Unity.

It’s BIG. Very BIG…

A big way to pay homage to one of the greatest leaders of India that really brought this country together post-independence.

It’s seriously, momentously BIG…

A big expense, costing Rs 2,300. Baffling when you know that over 12,000 farmers commit suicide every year. Many of them do it because they can’t afford to pay loans as meager as few thousands.

A big cover-up for the failure of the government. Did nothing to protect the rights of the lower-end population and now paying homage to their its leader. Hey, did you know that crime rate against Dalit has increased by 25 percent from 2006 to 2016?

Sardar Patel Statue of Unity.

It’s BIGGGGG….

A big welcome to the election campaign speeches of the BJP leaders (and propaganda media). Start keeping count of the number of times these leaders credit Modi ji for creating this statue. You’ll go insane!

It’s SUPER Big…

A super big way to divert attention from important things as we inch closer to 3 important state elections and General election 2019.

A super big way to instigate the national vs anti-national debate again. Those who say even a word against the monument will be labeled against Patel and be called anti-national. A very common trick, really, to polarise voters before elections.

Honestly…

Sardar Patel Statue of Unity.

It’s big and wonderful.

And keeping aside the fact that it was built by a lot of help from the Chinese, it’s actually a delightful moment when people may actually look beyond Mahatma Gandhi and Nehru.

Sardar Patel, post-independence, was the individual who brought different provinces in the country together as a single nation. He was one of the greatest leaders in the freedom movement, filled with intellect and humility.

Although he would have never agreed to have his statue that costs Rs 2500 crore when India actually ranks worse than North Korea in hunger index BUT, oh well…

People will now get to know more about him. He will be in the news, albeit for only a few days. (Also, people will now know when his birthday falls. Do you know?)

His legacy, not that it ever required a Rs 2500 crore statue, will be solidified.

The only worry is how all the political parties will now do politics on Sardar Patel and his legacy till the runner-up to general election 2019.

My opinion on Sardar Patel Statue of Unity- It’s great, even with the poor attempt to steal and refine the name of “statue of liberty”. We all must be proud of this leader—know more about him. Just remember to keep an eye on those politicians who will try to juice Sardar’s legacy for their own benefits.
