"Synergize" or "let's circle back" used to be funny, but the one that now makes me feel like a total NPC is "move the needle."
Every meeting, someone drops it with a straight face: "We need to move the needle on Q3 metrics." It sounds so profound, yet it's just "do something that matters" dressed up in corporate drag. I catch myself nodding along like a good little automaton, and suddenly I'm questioning my whole existence.
It's peak empty jargon – vague enough to sound strategic, specific enough to dodge real accountability. These days it hits different; I hear it and just feel… programmed. Like I'm one prompt away from "leveraging core competencies" in my sleep.
