Seems like “Dragonfly” is not a secret anymore, and Google is facing a dilemma regarding the search engine. Indeed, many a questions pop into one’s mind when we think about the search engine giant Google is ready to agree to the terms and conditions of China’s censorship plans some of which are against human rights and freedom of expression.

Moreover, as Reuters reports, Google employees are in an uncomfortable state as the secret project “Dragonfly” has disclosed. Other cause of their concern in the Google’s going against its own “don’t be evil” clause in its attempt to launch a search engine in China.

Google employees thus, want more transparency and accountability in Dragonfly. And despite all the efforts that Google is putting in, China says that it’s unlikely that they will be welcoming Dragonfly anytime soon.

Google’s secret project “Dragonfly” is no less than Pandora’s Box, if successful. The project aims at launching a censored Google search engine which will follow the demands of the country having world’s biggest internet market, China. “In other words, topics or websites banned in China will not be accessible through Google's Dragonfly search engine”’ says India Today.

China, despite being world’s biggest Internet market, has banned all the goggle services in the country. In order to provide Chinese users with its services, Google has thought of creating “Dragonfly”, which will operate according to the censorship demands of China.

Expectations are that if this search engine really gets launched, many other governments can also demand such search engines from Google. "The biggest search engine in the world obeying the censorship in China is a victory for the Chinese government - it sends a signal that nobody will bother to challenge the censorship anymore”, says Patrick *****.

Search terms that would be banned in China through “Dragonfly” are related to the topics like human rights, democracy, religion, and peaceful protests. The app is expected to be better than the Chinese search engine Baidu and will also censor the sites like BBC and Wikipedia. Basically, anything that the Chinese Community Party doesn’t want to get searched would be banned on “Dragonfly”.
