Black Friday was started in the 60s out of frustration in the downtown Philadelphia shopping district and grew to be embraced all over the country and beyond as the busiest shopping day of the year. Store owners and buyers alike relish the day after Thanksgiving as the opening of the holiday shopping season and the day to make the cash registers sing; some stores literally opening their doors even before the Thanksgiving dinner dishes have been cleared away.
