What is DDU-GKY?

The full form of DDU-GKY is Deen Dayal Upadhyaya –Grameen Kaushalya Yojana. Launched by the union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Venkaiah Naidu, the program has the vision of the transformation of rural poor youth into a workforce which is able to sustain by itself economically.


This program targets the youth between 15 to 35 years of age and is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM).

The program works towards the increment of the income of rural poor families by providing youth with better education and career options. One of the primary motives of DDU-GKY is to increase the employability to Indian youth.

Features of DDU-GKY

• It involves the partnership of government and private organizations and educational institutions to achieve the desired changes.

• The curriculum incorporates the training hours in the soft skills, spoken English, and basic computers making the students well-versed in technology and communication to increase their employability.

• All the training the students get is entirely free of cost. The program also provides free uniform, course material, and lodging.
