Home is the most dangerous place for women, a shocking reality revealed in the recent UN report. This is true all over the world. The report is based on worldwide homicide data provided by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime that reveals more than 50% of female homicide victims were killed by close partners or relatives.
Though a majority of international male homicide victims face death in the hands of strangers, women are likely to be killed by somebody they are close to. Among approximately 87,000 international female homicide victims, 34% of them were killed by a close partner and 24% by a relative. The rate of killing by a partner or relative is highest in Africa followed by the US. Europe reported the least rate of such killing incidents.
