Hinduism has very different kinds of poojas which hold their own significance. Just like our culture, our festivals too put on display the rich Hindu tradition with the rituals incorporated in them.
Hartalika Teej is one such festivals of Hindu religion.
On the festival of Hartalika Teej, married women fast for the long life of their husbands. In some places, the fast of Hartalika Teej holds even more value than Karva Chauth. This year Hartalika Teej would be celebrated on 12th September, 2018. According to Hindu calendar, Hartalika teej falls on the third day after the Amawasya (no moon day) of Bhadrapad.
We worship Goddess Parvati on the day of Hartalika Teej. This ensures the long life of the husbands of the fastees. If unmarried girls keep this fast, they get an ideal husband.
-The fast of Hartalika Teej starts right after midnight. The fast is commenced by having a cucumber at 12 am and brushing teeth after that. After doing this, you can’t even have water.
-In the morning, you may start the preparations for Hartalika Teej pooja and fast. Some people go to temple for the pooja and some do it at home itself. If you plan to do it at home, decide the place of the pooja and make the necessary preparations for that.
-The time of the pooja, or worship of Hartalika Teej is 4pm. You can also do it in your poojaghar.
-The place where you want to performs the rites and rituals, clean it with Gangajal, and then apply some flour paste on that place. Decorate it with turmeric and red vermillion, and keep a wooden stool on it.
-Spread a red cloth on the stool, and place the idols of Shiva-Parvati on it.
-Keep rice on the stool and place the idol of Lord Ganesha. Offer flowers to Shiva-Parvati.
-Now you can commence pooja with applying tika of turmeric, red vermillion and rice on Shiva-Parvati. Offer flower, fruits, sweets, and light the lamp with ghee for the worship.
-Read Katha, or the story prescribed for this Vrat or fast, perform Hawan, and Aarti. In this fast, you can neither eat anything, nor drink. You can’t even sleep the whole night.
-The pooja for Hartalika Teej is done at certain time intervals. First of all, at 4 pm, then at 8 pm, then at 12 am, and at 4 am. The last pooja is performed at 6 am the next day, after which your fast is considered as complete.
