The following article will provide insight on how these cities are able to create a proper wastewater treatment process which primarily focuses on lessening bacteria levels so they won't pollute our waterways with their toxins.

One of the most important aspects of any city is the wastewater treatment process. Without proper sewage management, water becomes contaminated with all sorts of pollutants and possible disease-carriers. The process generally has four stages: collection, transport, treatment, and disposal. There are many different types of wastewater treatments that vary in capabilities, but all primarily use two or three processes to clean their sewage before releasing it back into the environment.

The wastewater treatment process removes contaminants from used water before it is released back into the environment. It typically involves three main stages:

  1. Primary treatment: Physical separation – screens remove large debris, and settling tanks let solids sink to the bottom (sludge).

  2. Secondary treatment: Biological process – bacteria break down organic matter in aeration tanks.

  3. Tertiary treatment: Advanced polishing – disinfection (e.g., chlorine, UV) and sometimes nutrient removal to produce clean effluent.

In short: It's a series of physical, biological, and chemical steps that turn dirty water into clean water.
