As far as gotra of Rahul Gandhi is concerned, there is bit confusing. Though his “gotra” has absolutely nothing to do with his political career; however, the opposition, which believes in right-wing Hindu ideology have raised this question. Some said that it is a personal attack that was not called for and Rahul Gandhi should completely ignore such statements. However, Mr. Gandhi couldn’t hold himself back and claimed to be a Dattatreya Bramhin, which he had said earlier during his visit to the famous Pushkar temple in Rajasthan.
If scrutinized properly, Rahul Gandhi is a descendant of late Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who married a Muslim. Being his grandson, if the traditional family tree is followed, according to some pundits, Rahul Gandhi cannot be a Bramhin. This is exactly what the opposition has claimed. The fact that Rahul Gandhi had already submitted his gotra which led to this controversy, the onus is now on him to corroborate his claim.
As far common citizen are concerned, for most of them his Gotra, makes no difference. However, there is a section who believes that Mr. Gandhi cannot belong to a Brahmin family due to his Muslim origins. Though unnecessary, yet, this is the latest controversy in Indian politics.
