Laws related to alcohol come under the state list in the constitution of India that means each state has their own laws and each state can set age limit according to them. Delhi is the capital of India where rules and regulation are very stringent and having liquor in Delhi one should be at least 25.

Delhi is not the only state where one should be 25, the other states which have the same drinking age are Chandigarh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Haryana and Meghalaya.

However, some states are lenient when it comes to drinking age, states like Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Rajasthan have drinking age is 18. And states like Gujarat and Bihar completely banned the liquor in their territories.

Recently, the Delhi government officials announced that liquor vendors, bars owners and clubs in the capital can demand age proof from their patrons to ascertain their age and the strict action can be taken against them if they serve alcohol to anyone aged below 25 years. As per the Delhi Excise Act, serving liquor to anyone who is below 25 years of age is an offence.
