Recently the talk of the town has been the war against Russia and Ukraine. Russian President Putin launched a military operation on 24 th February against Ukraine. The tensions between Ukraine and Russia go years back. The tensions escalated in the year 2021 when Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky urged United States president Joe Biden to let Ukraine join NATO.

After the breakdown of the Soviet Union, they voted for independence from Moscow. Russian President Putin deems Ukraine as an artificial creation Carved from Russian by enemies. He has also even gone on to describe Ukraine as a puppet of the West.

Zelensky's request to be part of NATO has angered Russia and it started placing troops near the Ukraine border.

Coming to the current situation, as Russia continued to launch missiles, Ukraine's military claimed at least "50 Russian occupiers" were killed. "Shchastya is under control. 50 Russian occupiers were killed. Another Russian plane was taken down in the district of Kramatorsk. This is the sixth," Ukraine's military said. Moreover, Ukraine's Major General Valeriy Zaluzhny said President Zelensky had ordered its forces to "inflict maximum losses against the aggressor".

Now, India is also facing some difficulties. On one hand, there is a growing relationship with the US. India-U.S. relations have never been better and this is true specifically in the defense sector. On the other hand, stands Russia with whom we have a history of friendship, which is our principal source of military hardware and which is willing more than other countries to share the technology involved.

But if this war continues, which results in a large number of civilian casualties, and has also given the nuclear alert which is quite scary, Belarus’s renouncing of non-nuclear status the indiscriminate bombing of major cities will even make it extremely difficult for India to maintain the non-aligned position for long.
