Luv and Kush, the twin sons of Rama and Sita, are legendary figures in Hindu mythology. Their story is told in the Ramayana, one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India.
After Sita was exiled from Ayodhya, she gave birth to Luv and Kush in the ashram of the sage Valmiki. They grew up there, unaware of their true identities.
One day, Rama was performing a horse sacrifice in Ayodhya when his horse was captured by Luv and Kush. Rama was furious and sent his brothers Lakshmana and Bharata to retrieve the horse. However, they were defeated by Luv and Kush in battle.
Finally, Rama himself went to confront Luv and Kush. He was amazed by their skills in archery and martial arts. Valmiki then revealed the truth to Rama, that Luv and Kush were his sons.
Rama was overjoyed to be reunited with his sons. He brought them back to Ayodhya, where they were crowned princes. Luv and Kush ruled Ayodhya wisely and justly for many years.
Where are Luv and Kush now?
In some versions of the Ramayana, Luv and Kush are said to have ascended to heaven with their parents after Rama completed his life on earth. In other versions, they are said to have continued to rule Ayodhya for many years.
Today, there are many temples and shrines dedicated to Luv and Kush throughout India. They are revered as symbols of filial piety and courage.
