The “king of Pop”, Michael Jackson, died in 2009, and one of his albums “Michael” was released posthumously. In 2014, however, there emerged some misconceptions and Vera Serova, a fan, accused Sony Music of the fake vocals in three of the album’s songs.
It is this week only that Sony Music was cleared off of the lawsuit, and Serova’s accusations were deemed inapplicable. According to Variety,
“Tuesday’s ruling — on an appeal brought by the estate and Sony — ruled that because the estate and Sony did not know for certain whether Jackson sang on the three songs, the album’s cover and promotional materials were not strictly commercial speech, and thus were not applicable for Serova’s charges.”
The statement of the court however, even after the victory in the lawsuit, does not make it clear if the songs were actually sung by Michael Jackson or not. The songs are “Breaking News,” “Monster” and “Keep Your Head Up”, which were said to be recorded in 2007.
Rumors have it that the songs in question were actually sung by an American singer, Jason Malachi. He even admitted it in 2011 through a Facebook post but his manager denied it later, calling the post fake. In 2010, Sony Music released a statement telling that they are sure that the vocals are that of Michael Jackson only.
