Parkinson's Disease is a chronic illness that affects your nervous system, causing tremors and muscle rigidity. In this post, we look at two treatments for Parkinson's Disease: deep brain stimulation (DBS) and surgery. Deep Brain Stimulation (known as DBS) is a surgical treatment where electrodes are implanted in the brain with the intention of alleviating the symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease. While it sounds scary, it can be very effective at reducing the symptoms associated with Parkinson’s disease. As an intracranial procedure, there are significant risks involved and only appropriate candidates should undergo DBS surgery.
