There is much that we do not know, and many things we take for granted. One of these is vitamin D — though it has been around for millennia and all this time, the story of who discovered vitamin D remains unclear. Two people independently made the discovery of one of the most important vitamins. Although Albert Szent-Györgyi described synthesizing vitamin D in 1933, it was not until the 1960s that Szent-Györgyi's discovery of vitamin D was clinically used for the treatment of rickets.
