Before getting to the
serious bit of the answer, here’s a slightly different analogy. Every Indian
captain who has led
the Indian cricket team after marriage has enjoyed great success. After
marrying, Kapil
Dev-led team brought World Cup to India for the first time in 1983. After his
marriage in 2010, MS
Dhoni brought the world cup again back to India in 2011. Now Virat Kohli is
married. Do you see
where I am going?
Call it superstitious.
But the theory is quite interesting, hopeful and fitting.
However, away from
this foolery analogy, India is still a favorite to win 2019 cricket world cup.
Under
Virat Kohli, the team
has been performing exceptionally well in all format. The team is highly
balanced with the
right mix of every kind of player. So we can hope Indian team to bring the
prestigious title back
home for the third time.
But there are few
other teams who stand just as much of the chance to win the tournament. South
Africa and England,
too, are playing great. They have a great line-up of new and experienced
players.
Other than these,
teams like Australia, West Indies, and Sri Lanka can put up a great challenge.
But
they wouldn’t win the
world cup. Period.
We’re still 16 months
away from the tournament. Anything can happen over the course. It’s all the
in the build-up. The
better a team is performing in the runner-up to the World Cup, the better would
they perform on the
big stage. So, as disappointing as that is, no amount of analysis can predict
who
will win 2019 world
cup.
