The first Indian woman to fly a fighter jet solo is Avani Chaturvedi. She achieved this historic milestone on 19 February 2018 by successfully completing a solo sortie in a MiG-21 Bison from an Indian Air Force base in Gujarat.

Avani Chaturvedi was one of the first three women selected as fighter pilots in the Indian Air Force, alongside Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh. Their induction marked a significant turning point in the history of India's armed forces, as it opened the fighter pilot stream to women for the first time.

Her solo flight demonstrated not only exceptional skill and determination but also the growing role of women in fields that were once considered exclusively male. Avani Chaturvedi's accomplishment has inspired countless young women across India to pursue careers in aviation, defense, science, technology, and leadership. Her journey stands as a symbol of courage, perseverance, and the increasing opportunities available to women in modern India.
