Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan served as India's first Vice-President, from 1952 to 1962.. He was a renowned philosopher and statesman, and was also a highly respected educator. He is known for his contributions to the field of comparative religion, and his work on the Bhagavad Gita is still widely read today.

Radhakrishnan was born in a Telugu Brahmin family in Tiruchanur, Andhra Pradesh, in 1888. He studied philosophy at the Madras Christian College and the University of Madras, and later taught at the University of Calcutta and Banaras Hindu University. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Banaras Hindu University.

In 1948, Radhakrishnan was appointed the Ambassador of India to the Soviet Union. He later served as the Ambassador of India to the United Kingdom. In 1952, he secured the position of the inaugural Vice-President of India through election. He served two terms as Vice-President, and was elected President of India in 1962.

Radhakrishnan was a popular and respected figure in India. He was known for his simple lifestyle and his deep commitment to education and public service. He was also a strong advocate for religious tolerance and understanding.
