Here’s a blatant statement that “radical progressive nationalists” won’t exactly like:

Electric cars won’t be popular in India for the next 30 years. Period. (Screenshot this if you want!)
Even when these next-gen cars can save up to Rs 70,000 on road tax, their existence in our country would be almost negligible. And there are plenty of reasons why.
• One, a large of India do not even know about the existence of electric cars.

• Two, the ones who know, do not understand the concept for such cars.
• Third, nobody really cares about being “environment-friendly” here.
• Fourth, the country lacks the infrastructure. (We lack sufficient number of ATMs even in urban areas for crying out loud! You think we will have so many charging stations in the country?!)

• Fifth, not many companies are enthused about electric cars in India.
All these are plain and simple reasons why Electric cars in India aren’t popular—and why they won’t be even in the next 30 years.
This is why only 4,800 cars (0.02 percent) of all new cars sold in India were electric. And this is why the ambition of turning 1/3 of total fleet electric by 2030 would turn up to be a failure. Excuse me for sounding pessimist! But these are some facts that one must face, keeping aside the ultra-enthusiasm of progression.
Come on, it is only in 2018 that India is pondering over the concept of self-serving petrol pumps. Do you really think we would have 1/3 of total vehicles in electric in the next 11-12 years? That’s a bluff!

And honestly, aside from the fact that these electric cars could literally have an altering impact on the environment, I am not sold to them. At a time when hundreds of core issues are troubling the nation and threatening its social and economic fabric, bringing electric cars should really fall last on the list of our priorities. Poverty, hunger, unemployment, urbanization, universal basic income, and healthcare—these are areas that need our immediate and entire attention and not electric cars.
In Short: Electric cars in India aren’t popular and successful. They won’t be for the next 3 decades. They are good and would bring a positive impact on the environment, and hence healthcare and the economy. But with the culture and infrastructure we have pampered in the country for decades, don’t expect to see too many of these high-tech cars on road any time soon.

t is simply because of the inadequacies of Indian businesses.

Mahindra has been in the electric vehicle business much before the goliaths of car world and shockingly they are yet to dispatch an EV that can be known as a CAR, what they have is all the more near a Quadricycle.

None of battery goliaths in India inspired certainty or skill to get into Li-particle battery fabricating or even begin collecting stations, if inaccessibility of residential crude material doesn't financially legitimize setting up assembling plants.

Just bottleneck in Indian EV business is Li-particle battery. Cost of Li-particle battery is around $250– 350 for every KWh in India wheareas for Tesla it is around $150 per KWh, on the off chance that one likewise consider PPP alteration for India and US, it will resemble paying $800– 900 for each KWh, for US nationals to feel indistinguishable warmth from Indians do when later pick an EV. At this cost EV won't take off anyplace in world. Thus, most importantly step is to lessen cost of Li-particle to make it tasteful arrangement. In India, value differential of in excess of 4 lakhs for same execution IC and EV adaptation doesn't bode well.

Car Industries realize they are inept to connect this hole at present. Along these lines, they are on habitual pettiness with government.

Greatest Lie of Decade via Automobile Industries (both Indian and International)

We are not Launching vehicle because of absence of Infrastructure - according to what I trust, electric autos doesnot require a lot of framework if extend is around 300km per full charge. Regardless of whether government put Fast chargers all over nation, no close to home client will use it, simply envision ceasing at a charging station for 30 mins in singing warmth and over that paying 2– multiple times residential power charges which one can utilize easily amid night.

One will charge vehicles at home according to his need, as per the computerized pointers demonstrating expected range. The spots which may require charging focuses will stop parcels that are to a great extent secretly worked and private parking spots, both these spots should get charging focuses by private speculation just as govt cannot venture on private terrains for some private utilize. All they require is charging framework accessible in market, again obligation of private businesses.
