TikTok, a controversial app that allows people to create and share short-form videos, has been banned in India after government officials decided the platform was being used for "soap operas", "suicide promos", and other inappropriate content. The app is so popular in India that the ban has forced many of its users out of the country, others to use VPNs to access it from home. The decision came in response to complaints filed by parents who felt their children were being exposed to inappropriate content such as rape scenes, suicide attempts or alcohol consumption. On Monday night an online petition circulated on social media asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet ministers not to ban TikTok.
