Why do I care so much about what others think of me?

You care about what others think because your brain is naturally designed to seek acceptance. Humans are social, so being liked feels safe and important. You may also worry about being judged or rejected, which is normal. Sometimes, you might depend on others’ opinions to feel good about yourself, so their reactions feel very powerful. Overthinking can make it worse, making you believe people notice or judge you more than they actually do. In reality, most people are busy thinking about themselves. It’s okay to care a little, but not too much. Your own opinion about yourself matters more, and learning to trust it can help you feel calmer and more confident.
