Majority of people already use Windows laptops and desktops. Perhaps they are sick of the same interface and programs, so they don’t want Windows phones? Because they want something different and new?
Besides, there has been plenty of wrongs with the Window phones that always choked its growth in the Smartphone market even when top names like Nokia invested extensively in the project.
Window phones never had that user-friendliness that one demands from the handheld devices. If you have used a Nokia Lumia, you would understand this well. Their interface was complicated.
Navigation was poor. And the worst of all was/is that there aren’t too many applications for Windows phones. (For whatever reason, Microsoft never created an ecosystem that encouraged developers to create apps.)
All these happened while Google and Apple were investing extensively in their respected OSs.
Microsoft tried to bring the computer-like experience in 5 and 6-inch screens, knowing less that people didn’t want that in the first place. They failed to listen to people and their needs. Consumers wanted better experience through simpler and interactive interface. Microsoft stood stubbornly to shove “Windows experience” through phones.
Honestly, there isn’t anything wrong with Windows phones. But Android and iPhones are just way better. So, it’s quite a no-brainer that people would invest in something better than the average.
Now, after a lot of excitement in the early stages, as it stood in 2016, Windows got reduced to just 0.3 percent of the Smartphone market share. No wonder, even Microsoft does not care about Windows Phones anymore. And Nokia is focusing more on Android now.
