The users of the group chat messaging app “Hipchat”, are agitated as Atlassian announced that it will be discontinued from February, 2019. The discontinuation owes to a deal struck with the rival, Slack. Analysts are expecting that this will result in the erosion of the users’ trust from Atlassian.
Atlassian previously too advised the users of Hipchat, to shift to Stride when Stride was launched. At that time, though, Hipchat was said to be in continuation for the users who choose to stick to the group messaging tool.
The main reason for the shutdown of Hipchat is Atlassian’s investment in Slack. This may be a problem for the users as many of them don’t know how to use Slack and would like to remain in their own comfort zone with Hipchat. The web service for internal private online chat and instant messaging being discontinued from the side of Hipchat, is expected to affect many companies and businesses.
The decision and the integration of Slack and Atlassian is going to be beneficial for Atlassian, as it will help in the expansion of its technical and IT team.
