Perhaps because the Twitter-bunch doesn’t have much to mind and usually love to pick issues in the name of political correctness?
But then again, President Donald Trump had it coming. During one of his campaign in 2016, Trump said, “I am a Big fan of Hindu and I am a big fan of India.”
Since then, he had a chip on his shoulder to, if not appease then, at least not offend the “Hindus” that he is a fan of. And things were going pretty well actually. The “Hindus” did a havan to ensure his victory in the election. The right wing went berserk when Modi met Trump, calling them “biggest leaders.”
But this love-saga between Trump and “Hindus” that he is such a big fan of had to end somewhere, sometime. And this is it…
President Donald Trump sends out Diwali wishes – a week late, at that – and forget to mention “Hindus” in his tweet. Of course, this was going to trigger a group who seek political correctness on every level.
Donald Trump tweeted (with a link), “Today, we gathered for Diwali, a holiday observed by Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains throughout the United States & around the world. Hundreds of millions of people have gathered with family & friends to light the Diya and to mark the beginning of a New Year.
Surprisingly, no mention of “Hindus” – just the Buddhists, Sikhs, and Jains. Perhaps he realized his mistake… so the tweet the was deleted immediately. And you would think the second time is a charm—but not for President Donald Trump.
Another tweet came out to send Diwali wishes. But even in this one, there was no mention of the “Hindus”. Only a different link was tweeted.
Again, the tweet was deleted. And thankfully, the third-time, things went correctly. Here’s the third tweet of President Donald Trump…
“It was my great honor to host a celebration of Diwali, the Hindu Festival of Lights, in the Roosevelt Room at the @WhiteHouse this afternoon. Very, very special people!
Tweeters picked this up. There were some criticisms, some jokes, and some serious political advice to the President from the intellects. And then, of course, ready to publish any and every trash, many leading news websites decided that this was news-worthy. So, they published it as a news.
Now note though: It’s safe to assume that President Donald Trump wasn’t personally tweeting. It was likely someone from his office.
Second, while attending a small gathering of “Hindus” in the White House, Donald Trump did mention about Hindus in his speech. "I'm thrilled to be here for the celebration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights," he said, reading from a prepared speech.
And third, according to several reports, the Diwali wishes tweets were out of sequence. So, it looked more evident that President Donald Trump forgot the “Hindus” who, again, he is such a big fan of.
