Will the air strike on Pakistan by Indian Air Force start a new war between the two nations?

If we go by the history of India, we will get to know that it has never attacked any country. The history, however, was bound to change after the Pulwama Terrorist Attack. India has the fourth largest defense force in the world, and not attacking any nation does not mean that India is incompetent of retaliating the harm done on its land, be it be army, navy, or air force.

India has finally proved its competency and avenged the Pulwama Terrorist Attack by the air strike on Pakistan by Indian Air Force. The action undoubtedly will have certain side effects, but no war between India and Pakistan is likely to be started by it.

War is said to be started when a country attacks another country, not when a country attempts to clean the neighboring land off the terrorists. Indian Air Force has just bombed the terrorist camps of Jaish e Mohammed which are mostly spread across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This just cannot be called a war.

If such an attack happens on the other side of the Line of Control (LoC), however, then Pakistan would surely be retaliating and then we can call it the beginning of a war. For its own defense, India can take any step and that can’t be named as war.

Okay, first let’s talk about the air strike, or as everyone is calling it, the surgical strike 2.0…

At the moment, even with all the chest-thumping in the jubilantly-exasperated Indian media, the exact detail of the event is quite a blur.

“In an intelligence-led operation in the early hours today, India struck the biggest training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Balakot. In this operation, a very large number of JeM terrorists, trainers, senior commander, and Jihadis were eliminated. Credible information was received that JeM was attempting other attacks in the country. A pre-emptive strike became important. India struck the biggest camp of JeM in Balakot,” – briefed Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale to the media.

Now note, Balakot is in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, which is in Pakistan. India has struck a Pakistan territory.

However, several media outlets report the Indian Defense Ministry saying that they have “no information” of an air strike on Pakistan.

As usual, much like the previous surgical strike, Pakistan media and leadership remains in denial of this attack by the Indian Air Force (IAF).

While a statement from Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan is still to come, the party he founded – Tehreek-e-Insaf – made many comments about this Surgical Attack 2.0 in a series of tweets.

Here are some of the tweets from their official Twitter handle @PTIofficial:

· “We always knew Indian media was irresponsible, but beating the war drums shows a disturbing bloodlust and deteriorating mindset at a time when Pakistan is on an upward trajectory. Indian jets scrambled back from Balakot which lies close to the LOC.#Pakistan”

· “We realise it’s election year, and a desperation across the border. Fact of the matter is, Indian jets were forced to retreat in haste by Pakistan army patrols and dumped fuel, which in their scramble they thought was a bomb.#Pakistan”

They took many jibes at India media, which, even as Indians, we can’t contend against. While it’s a great victory for Indian forces and the nation as a whole, it’s also an event that exposes the Indian media yet again for hyper-sensationalizing everything.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is reportedly keeping a close eye on everything. He even chaired an important cabinet committee meeting, which was attended by Sushma Swaraj, Nirmala Sitharaman and Arun Jaitley.

The operation was launched at 3:56 am. Twelve Mirage 2000 jets dropped 1000kg bombs on terror camps across the Line of Control.

The strike lasted about 21 minutes. Three spots in Pakistan and Pakistan-captured Kashmir were targeted: Balakot, Muzaffarabad, and Chakoti.

The number of terrorists killed in the operation is not known yet. Also, whether brother-in-law of Masood Azhar – Maulana Yousuf Azhar, a primary target – is dead or alive is inconclusive.

However, the government sources are saying that the Balakot Jaish camp, which was led by Yousuf Azhar, is completed flattened in the air strike by Indian Air Force.

Following Surgical Strike 2.0, states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Punjab are put on high alert to counter any retaliation from Pakistan.

Still, looking beyond the fooleries of Indian media, the details of this air strike is blurry. Things will get clearer as we move forward.

But, in the end, coming to your question: Is India and Pakistan heading for a war after this strike on terrorists, IT’S QUITE DIFFICULT TO SAY!

A lot depends on how different countries react to this military action by India. Will India get support from them? Will Pakistan get the sympathy? What will be the stance of the United Nations now?

That said, you can be certain that Pakistan PM Imran Khan will respond much stronger than his predecessor. He would be in a lot of pressure from his own nationals, as was PM Modi from Indians following the Pulwama Attack that killed 44 CRPF jawans. Even in his last address to India, he said Pakistan will retaliate when needed. And the fact that, always outspoken, he hasn’t responded yet, it might be the sign that Pakistan government and the military is deciding the right course of action.

Similarly, if Pakistan does retaliate, so will India then. As sad as it is, the Indian government and Indian forces are already succumbed under the pressure of right-wing ‘Badla-demanding’ media.

One would have to look whether Pakistan continues to remain in denial about Surgical Strike or whether they admit that it happened and they sustain casualties.

It’s quite a precarious situation at the moment. A perfect event for news channels to gain TRP and money with their exasperated reporting. And a more-than-great beginning for the ruling party to posture their strength as we head to General Election 2019.

Personally, I do hope those CRPF jawans that were killed by Pakistan-based terrorists, their families find peace and comfort in this strike against terror.

Also, I hope that this doesn’t ***** the already-maddened situation there is with Kulbhusan Yadav.
