Will the VVPAT machines be able to save General Elections 2019 from hampered results?

Since some years, India has started Electronic Voting Machines or EVMs for elections. And it is not a hidden fact that right from their introduction, these machines have been non-trustable. After every election, the losing parties have accused EVMs of the hampered results.

Not just that, but EVM and its use have also been an issue brought before the judiciary but the lack of evidence has saved the machines every time.

Now to better up the image of the EVMs, they are being linked to VVPAT machines for the General Elections 2019. VVPAT machines will ensure that the voter has proof of her vote, as to which party she has elected. One copy of this proof also remains with the election official. Then the votes are evaluated and verified through VVPAT receipts to avoid any hampering in election results.

However, the elections conducted with VVPAT machines have also seen many flaws at times. Still, the Election Commission wants to give VVPAT machines a shot. In the whole country, there is no one except the EC itself who trusts EVM.

If you ask me, I don’t think VVPAT will make any difference on the grounds of hampering of election results.
