At least that’s what he claimed in NDTV Youth Conclave, criticizing Modi Sarkar and warning, 'mehngai ki aag to Modi Sarkar ko bahut mehngi padegi' (the fire of rising prices will prove costly for the Modi government).

Well, we know that even the government could achieve what Yoga guru Ramdev is claiming if it wanted. The solution offered by Ramdev is the same one for which Modi government is being criticized -bringing petrol and diesel under the lowest slab of the uniform Goods and Services Tax (GST).
But as the reports tell, “If the Modi government reduces excise duty on petrol and diesel by Re 1, it stands to lose Rs 14,000 crore in revenue, which would put a huge dent on its fiscal deficit target of 3.3 per cent of the GDP, says an estimate.”
Baba Ramdev now seems like a re-awakened being who finally acknowledges the failures and disasters the Modi government has caused in the country. He now calls himself a “centrist” (neither rightist, not leftist).
Taking a neutral stand, Baba Ramdev has distanced himself from politics and will not be helping BJP in the next election campaigns. All he is worried about now is the record-breaking prices of fuel, and he does have a solution.
However, let’s not forget the kind of alternatives he has given us in the past under Patanjali.

You can also sell it for rs. 2 per liter, because you do not have to sell it. Any such statement without substantial framework, made by anybody who holds public figure should be condemned. Petrol and other petroleum products can be cheaper by some margin but would nation want to give up its habit of subsidy? Try finding government expenditure and you will believe why subsidy is bane for economy. Any person or nation has limited income and every expenditure is to meet by that income or borrowing. If we spend on subsidy and freebies instead of development and security, somebody have to take the burden. And petroleum products are one such asset for government, others are liquer and tobacco. This is so very necessary and government is so dependent on that tax that, even after knowing that this factor alone can topple the government the next time, nobody could reduce the tax rate significantly.
